  • Lights On at Beaver Creek

    Beaver Creek is going green. March 24 was Green Day at the mountain. The resort gave the first 1000 guests an Energy Star Qualified lightbulb. It's part of the Energy Star Change-A-Light Pledge. Beaver Creek's environmental management team says that replacing 1,500 light bulbs would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 669,000 pounds and save 423,000 kWh of energy. Full Article

  • Aspen Highlands To Stay Open Longer

    Many of Colorado's resorts got hit with a nice weekend of heavy snow. Vail received a foot of snow, setting up the mountain for some super spring skiing. The first two weeks in April is the Spring Back To Vail celebration, rated the number one ski party in North America. It's two weeks of on-snow events, live music and the Taste of Vail. Kids 12 and under can ski free at Vail April 16-19. Aspen Highlands had so much snow from the weekend storm that they have extended the season for a week. The mountain will now close April 8 instead of April 1, thanks to strong bookings and a base of more than six feet. Full Article

  • Get on Board at Heavenly

    Heavenly Resort and Transworld Snowboarding magazine are teaming up to present a different kind of snowboard event: The 2007 Team Challenge on April 5-6. This one-of-a-kind event will showcase 20 teams representing the biggest manufacturers in the sport – including but not limited to Flow, Burton, Solomon, Ride and K2. Full Article

  • Going to Extremes at Kirkwood

    In the last week of March, Kirkwood will be the gathering spot for the world's best extreme skiers and boarders who will compete in the Subaru North American Freeskiing Championships, the fourth stop on the Freesking World Tour. These top-flight freeriders will take on the challenging Cirque, a normally out-of-bounds area at the heart of Kirkwood that is opened only for this event. Full Article

  • Flying Fossils at Keystone

    She calls herself the "flying fossil." 75-year-old Freda Nieters is a former ski champion who broke the Guinness Book of World Records last year by skiing 78,000 vertical feet in one day at Keystone. This week, she skied with former Olympians Steve Mahre and Jason Rossner to raise money for SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Nieters' grandson died of it in 2005. Full Article

  • Vail Honors President Ford

    President's Day in Vail had new meaning this year as runs at Vail and Beaver Creek were each renamed after the late President Gerald R. Ford, the nation's 38th president. Beaver Creek Resort has designated its advanced Pitchfork trail "President Ford's." The black diamond trail begins at the top of Strawberry Park and winds past President Ford's former residence.   • Rainbow Gathering at South Lake Tahoe

    Winterfest, an annual on- and off-snow carnival for gays and lesbians, returns to South Lake Tahoe on March 4. The weeklong event includes skiing/boarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing as well as the casino nightlife of Stateline. Full Article

  • Always an Adventure at Northstar

    The Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race, which takes place March 11 at Northstar, is a multi-discipline event in which teams of two - coed, male, female and masters (over 40) - will utilize winter backcountry gear (snow shoe, tele ski, and/or randonee) to make their way around Northstar's backcountry in search of hidden checkpoints.
