1) Great accomodations in area. Grand Summit is exactly 33 steps from the Gondola. This is great if you have kids since the ski school is downstairs. The little ones ski for free. 2) Almost no lift lines once you are on the mountain. There can be 10 minute lines (the worst I've seen) for the Gondola. Once you are on the mountain the lines disappear. If you are expert, 9990 never has a line! 3) Good kids ski school...our 2 year old even skied down High Meadow! 4) Great variety of terrain...there are eight mountains so you have to ski over to five of them. Great backcountry terrain too. Do yourself a favor and only ski it with locals. 5) It is slightly warmer at The Canyons than down the road at Deer Valley, and it could make a difference in spring conditions. I skied there last spring in 60 degree weather and the snow was surprisingly good. 6) It is not overgroomed like Deer Valley. Groomed, yes. Overgroomed, no. It is still a ski area! So is Park City. 7) Park City is less than 10 minutes away by public transportation or car. You will want to go there since it gets quiet in the resort after dark. The food is OK at their resaurant, but there is so much more in town. 8) It is a 40 minute ride from the airport. Easy. 9) It isn't that hard to get around the area. Just go to the mountain you want to ski and have fun. The problem is that there aren't many lodges there. Red Pine is the only big one, so you want to head back before you are cold or tired. 10) The Canyons is an undiscovered gem of a ski area. You are served better than all the other Utah areas except, of course, Deer Valley (and you pay through the nose for it in Deer Valley). There are so many other ski areas nearby to try, too. If you don't like lift lines and want great skiing on a variety of terrain, this is the place to go.
