By far Alta is my favorite. Mountain is so deep you need to ride three or four lifts to get to the back. Utah definitely has the best snow- light and fluffy, and Little Cottonwood Canyon gets a lot of it. No snowboarder means snow stays on the slopes and don't get snowplowed like most other places. And the ticket price?? What more can you ask for if you love skiing.
It can be tough for beginners/intermediates but if there are lot of snow, it's almost more fun to tumble down the hill in a fluffy powder than ski down the groomed runs. :-) Easy access from Salt Lake City is a bonus. (although morning after the storm you won't be able to get there until they clear the road.)
