great snow and terrain, rarely crowded
This is my favorite ski area and has been for 20 years, because it is all about the skiing. There is no faux European village you have to slog through to get to the lifts. I get there early and park at Albion Base, walk a few feet to the lodge where I put my boots on, and slide down to the uncrowded lift right outside. I have never gone to Utah and not had a powder day at Alta. Utah does have the Greatest Snow on Earth and Alta gets the most. If you're not interested, fine. Stay away. That just leaves more lift-serviced powder for me.
