The inaugural season for the Utah Winter Games WinterFit program was a huge success. The purpose of WinterFit is to get people off the couch and doing something active during the long winter months, when the average American gains four pounds. Nearly 280 people participated this winter, with 70 of them dropping over four pounds each in the Weight Loss category. Over 200 joined the Minutes of Activity competition, averaging over 57 hours of total physical activity per person for a total of over 12-thousand hours. Full Article

Back-to-back snowstorms have been pounding Utah and Colorado. Ski Utah sends word that resorts are offering fantastic, powdery conditions and 100-inch base depths, with one to two more feet on the way this week. Full Article

Alta is signing up for wind power at the resort, promising to purchase 900,000 kilowatt-hours (kwh) for the next 12- month period. It will offset over 23 percent of Alta's energy consumption. Full Article

Hit the Utah slopes for your skiing and riding pleasure! That's the message the Utah Office of Tourism is continuing to promote with its new "Life Elevated" logo. Utah could soon be getting new license plates to display the state's skiing industry. Craig Johnson with the Utah chapter of the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association came up with the idea. "It shows the larger, energetic skier along with the mountain background which is appealing and represents the state well." Full Article

Alta offers some free time on the slopes every day, on the Sunnyside lift. It's called Ski Free After 3, which means you can take some turns off the Sunnyside lift from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. That's where you'll find the long, gentle slopes of Albion Basin, which is perfect for beginners and kids learning to ski.
