Nearly endless pistes for all levels of difficulty await you in Tyrol. Situated in the mountains of the Austrian state are famous ski areas like Ischgl, Kitzbühel, St. Anton am Arlberg and Serfaus – Fis – Ladis. The state also encompasses well-known glacier ski areas like Sölden or Hintertux.

The endless and well-groomed slopes are served by modern lifts and skyrides. There are also lots of cross-country ski runs, winter trails and toboggan runs and of course many deep snow slopes and fun parks. A very exciting and diverse winter vacation awaits you in Tyrol.


Tirol can really offer something for every time of snow sports fan and every type of winter holiday – a claim few regions can match. For example you can stay in the city of Innsbruck, with its convenient rail and air connections, and its history of staging the Olympics twice, and get a ski pass that covers 8 ski centres surrounding the city, all connected to the centre by an efficient bus service.

Or you can stay in a picture postcard Tyrolean village such as those that make up the Wildschonau area. Other resorts like Alpbach and Westendorf have won awards for being the most beautiful villages in Austria and Europe.

Or you can opt for one Austria’s biggest ski areas, the Ski Welt which connects villages like Soll, Brixen, Ellmau and Westendorf in a 250km piste circuit, supported by Austria’s biggest snowmaking operation and now linked to Kitzbuhel’s ski area to create one of the world’s biggest ski areas with more than 400km of piste.

If you like great après-ski, Tirol again has a better choice of hedonistic spots than almost any other region with casinos and much more in Innsbruck, Kitzbuhel and Seefeld and a great party scene ifn resorts like St Anton, Solden, Mayrhofen and Soll.

You can even ski here in summer, the Tux glacier is open all year round and several other glaciers including Kaunertal, Pitztal and Solden are open for most of the year.
If it’s skiing history that’s of interest then a visit to St Anton will also suit you as this was where Hannes Schneider really popularised the style of Alpine downhill skiing most of us enjoy today when it was perfected in the Arlberg region more than 100 years ago. He went on to export the style across Europe and to Japan and North America.

For ski competitions you could choose Kitzbuhel for the famous Hahnenkann race each January, attracting more than 50,000 fans to the slopes it’s Austria’s biggest annual sporting event.
The list could go on and on because Tirol really does have it all for skiers and boarders.
