Have been to St Johann the last week of January for each of the last 5 or 6 years. Great, friendly town. Also stayed at the Park Hotel and have to agree that the Family Grander are wonderful hosts and very kid friendly with lots of activities for families. The Park is located a short 3 min walk from the main gondola and the Intersport Ski Shop which has top-notch rental equip at a reasonable price if you don't want to lug your gear through airports. Conditions in January '07 were the worst I have ever seen there, very much like those here in Vermont where I live. The year before was excellent as in years past. Access to Kitzbuhel by train is very easy if you are looking for a change of scenery with a lot more 'glitz', including more, varied terrain and a Casino. Stay at The Park includes access to the Panarama Badewelt facility which includes a waterslide, heated outdoor spa pool and indoor full-size pool and even an ice skating rink. The Huber Brau brewery with it's tower-top restaurant is a short walk from the Hotel as is grocery and other shopping. Travel to Salzburg or Innsbruck is just over an hour east or west by rental car and Munich airport is 1 1/2 -2 hrs. Overall a very nice, friendly town with good intermediate to advanced ski terrain and easy access to other skiing and sightseeing. I recommend touring the salt mine in Hallein near Salzburg, the Zugspitze (highest peak in Germany) and Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany not far from Innsbruck. For those looking for night life the Aussies have a rockin' bar right across the street from the Park and the bars don't close until 5 AM. My family and I plan on returning to St Johann again this year and I would recommend the area to anyone.
