Many of us who do not live in "ski country" and cannot afford luxury travel get our ski thrills catch-as-catch-can. Here in San Antonio, one of my favorites is a skiing simulator at Fiesta Texas, a Six Flags theme park, where one can simulate downhill or slalom racing at novice, intermediate, and expert levels. To do all 63 gates at the expert level is a real thrill. But far more exciting to me is the excitement, joy. and serenity that comes with hearing (and singing) the skier's yodel from Serfaus, Austria. Texas has a large population of German transplants, and Alpine jodeling is a big part of that tradition. If you want some volksmusik skiing excitement in your life, Google search on Surfaus and Jodel (or yodel). You can almost feel the powder flying past your ears as you listen to "Serfaus Jodeler" from such groups as the Sauerkrauts, Kerry Christensen, and the Stratton Mountain Boys.Happy Trails.John Chase
