Just returned from the fourth visit to these resorts in 12 months, tried the Deutchmann, Alpina, Wervall (chalet) and most recently the Olymp Sport in Hochgurgl.
The Alpina gets my vote for the best all round, whereas the snow conditions have been better in the Hochgurgl area, I feel mightily sorry for all involved in the industry throughout Europe, whilst the conditions had worsened since December, a lot of effort was being put into piste preparation, unfortunately the practice of scooping snow from areas close to the piste is unwise when the snow there is shallow, the amount of small stones and rocks collected which are then pushed into the piste un-knowingly is shocking, especially when they only come to light a couple of hours into the day as the snow gets cut up, one of the party discovered this the hard way, at speed followed by a quite death defying summersault and landing!
Overall the area is excellent, perhaps leaning more towards a family outing with the valley end position and low traffic flow, the facilities are clean and well maintained, mountain huts are generally good, the new Top Mountain Star is a feat of engineering that has to be visited, the view and surroundings are breathtaking. The local ski schools are excellent, the standard of tuition is hard to beat.
