Finkenbery is a lovely place to stay if you want to avoid the crowds at Mayerhofen. Once up on the lifts, you are on the same extensive Zillertal slopes. You can read all about Zillertal on Mayerhofen, and I'm no ski-ing expert, so i'll not bang on about snow conditions.

However, I would recommend Finkenberg if you are looking for a quiet, few queues, no nightlife style break. It is a little village just up the road from Mayerhofen, and is populated mainly by homes and hotels. The biggest hotel, and nearest to the ski lift is the Sport Hotel. We've never stayed there but it looks very smart. We stayed at the Olympia Stock Hotel, further away from the lifts, but well served by frequent (free) buses. This is owned by Leonhard Stock, an Olympic Skier, who once a week arranges trips out with him. Herr Stock does speak English, but the trips and hotel is mainly geared for German speakers.

Crystal Holidays uses the Eberl - a good, basic hotel, almost opposite the Olympia.

Overall it's an excellent base that is much, much quieter than the Mayerhofen choice and with free buses and coaches travelling up and down the Zillertal valley, if the snow is a bit ropey, you can always take a trip to the Glacier.
