Schladming and its adjoining mountains are all mainly north facing so hold the snow unbelievably well throughout the season. The only down side is they can get a little hard-work near the end of the day so make sure you have good edges! If things get a little too busy on the main Planai mountain, head over to the beautiful Haus area, fantastic runs and some wonderful mountain huts (stop at the Marcus Hut and try a 'Strammer' ). The traditional atmosphere is helped a good deal by the constant playing of old fashioned Austrian 'oom pah pah' music in most establishments.
On arriving back in Schladming (the black run home is fantastic), head to the Hanglbar for some apres ski, the Austrians and Dutch are experts in dancing in their ski boots and will make you feel very welcome. Bar games, such as hammering in a nail with an ice-pick are also abundant - usually played for forfeits such as downing large amounts of jagermeister. Make sure you make it home for dinner though or you'll miss the next mornings skiing!
