Firsthand Reports

Okemo Mountain Resort +

Sat 4/15 - Okemo is my favorite mountain and they did a great job yet again this year. So thanks to everyone there for a great year, and especially the snowmakers and the groomers. Their grooming is just hands down the best, and they always have the best conditions in Southern Vermont as a result. If you are going there for their closing day on Easter, they have tons of snow left. Jackson Gore was the best with barely any obsticals and faster snow. Just watch out for over the blind ledges on some of the steeper trails as there is some dirt and rocks in places. The snow was a little sticky in the flats, but the trails themselves were not that bad.

Thu 4/13 - My last day at MS for the season. It was a pretty damn good year. I like the small resort vibe combined with the big resort snow making and very good grooming that they offer. They had essentially 5 front trails, 2 North Face, and 2 park trails. Almost every trail outside the parks had narrow parts in places, and that may make them hard to maintain through Sunday, though most of those trails were good and wide outside of the choke points. The park areas no doubt will survive the weekend. If the jumps are still there, Nitro is in good shape and the conditions are great for beginners to get some practice. Please don't hang out on the landings though. Not safe!

Good coverage for this time of year. Exactly what you'd expect for April. Great day of Spring skiing!

Wet Snow

Sunday 4/9 was fast and groomed in the morning. As the sun warmed things up, the surface became increasingly slushy, especially near the bottom, with patches of smooth snow that would nevertheless grind momentum to a halt. By 1PM, it was 60F, most skiers were heading home, and it felt like the very end of the season. Fun while it lasted!

Amazing day! No ice, no bare spots. So much snow, wish they stayed open for just one more weekend!
