Was hoping for more than 1" of snow to cover the rock hard base, but honestly, having more than that would have left me totally dejected given that this was the last day of their season. The cold temps however were clearly the weather gods laughing at us; whispering in our ears in 40 mph gusts, saying that they still got it. Next year...
Went yest 3/30, coverage on trails open was good , look for bad spots that are usually marked. Morning was better and firmer, afternoon a little sticky, and a leg workout, but 50 and sunny, glad we went for last time of season!
In the Winter of 2015-2016 when it snows 3 inches you must hit it. In the colder morning all of the open trails except for Standard were good to great. in the afternoon it reached 50 at the base and the trails as they got scraped, softened up. Generally good cover on open trails, but not enough in some places to tolerate extended warm temps. The mid-mountain lodge area gets too sloppy above 40 degrees, as well as the flats. If you ride the bear trails in a warm day, take Ursa back up and go to the base a different way. Weekdays next week are tentative based on how things hold up to the weather, but they definitely will open for the 9th and 10th closing weekend. Pray for snow with the cold snap. The mountain base is flat enough that a good 6 inches of new snow and near freezing temps would result in perfect problem free skiing and riding. Conditions will be somewhat difficult until freezing conditions and at least a little bit of snow returns. No fault of theirs of course, and the rest of S. Vermont closes this weekend for the season. I will be bask next week if it snows.
Good overall today. Upper mountain more like late winter, groomed, nice. lower mountain like spring, some ungroomed, rutty, mushy areas. Thin spots all marked well. gondola closed. sure didn't seem like 45 plus trails were open seemed more like less than 10. most of early 2 inches melted or blew off but still made everything look like winter. deal on tix. deal on room. overall good late season fix.
Global warming is all about extremes! The last two seasons are a perfect example. I was on the slopes yesterday before the snow. Slopes weren't in very good shape - not much open. Hopefully 3" of new snow helps.
