Serre Che is the 2nd largest ski resort in the world and is comprised of four main areas: Briancon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Monetier. If you are driving there for a days skiing from another resort, leave early to get a parking space and lift-pass as, due to its close proximity to Italy, it can get very busy with Italians as well as locals. Best skiing is in Chantemerle and Villeneuve as Monetier, although beautiful can get quite icey. Briancon is also an intriguing town with its ancient walled forts but ski runs are limited. Whilst skiing in Briancon two weeks ago, I stopped for self service lunch and paid 18euros for a lasagne and chips so unless you are Donald Trump, maybe take a packed lunch! The runs from the top of Villeneuve to the bottom are fantastic with excellent groomed pistes. There is plenty of fun to be had skiing through the trees when its snowing too. Once at the bottom, head to ‘Le Grotte’ for happy hour (5pm-6) and live music.
