Risoul kind of lacks a great distinguishing characteristic so it's hard to say there's something making it really special, but we had a great week here as there's a huge ski area and the opurpose built resort base is very pleasant, if not especially exciting! The resort has been designed quite tastefully with copmparatively low rise buildings and a big snow front where a lot of facilities are conveniently located right next to the slopes so everything is ski-in, ski-out. There are fast lifts that gobble queues and take you up in to the main ski area which goes for hundreds of miles of piste over to neighbouring Vars. Most of these are fast and easy blues and reds so it's a great choice if you like to just cruise around at high speed. Aklso noticed that lft passes were very affordable compared to better known ski areas in the Alps - about a third less.
