This resort has great terrain and the trail layout makes all the superb real estate easily accessible. It had a reputation at one time of being very family-oriented and still offers some great beginner lessons and an extensive ski area for beginners of all ages.
Unfortunately, the rest of the mountain has been taken over by young male snowboarders and the resort’s management actually encourages a “pirate” mentality. These pirates often travel in roaming bands and can be seen bursting from wooded areas onto main trails without even a nod uphill. Today, a snowboarder barged his way to the front of the lift line to catch up to his mate by going over my skis and poles and then proceeded to tell me I should go around him because he wanted to wait for yet another pirate. The lift operator had absolutely nothing to say.
Do yourself a favor and leave this resort to the pirates this resort management caters to or stick to the beginners area. You can find any number of safer and more civil places to ski elsewhere in the Tahoe Basin…Kirkwood, Homewood, Diamond Peak, Alpine….
