Wilder Kaiser: Austria's largest Interconnected Ski Area
SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental is made up of nine villages: Ellmau, Going, Scheffau, Soll, Brixen im Thale, Itter, Kelchsau, Scheffau, and Westendorf. Together they offer a combined total of 279 kilometres of pistes, making it Austria’s largest interconnected ski area.
The ski area is set between 620 and 1870 metres altitude. It is suitable for all levels of skier, from beginners to experts, with three green runs, 256 blue, 210 red, and 33 black. The area is also highly rated by snowboarders and features two snow and terrain parks.
Skiers and boarders can access this vast ski area via 91 cable cars and lifts. More than 180 kilometres of pistes are kept fresh with snow cannons. There are also plenty of mountain restaurants and huts to choose from with 70 scattered across the region.
The area is home to 83 kilometres of well groomed cross-country slopes; Going offers the most extensive range of slopes while Scheffau offers snow-covered and illuminated slopes with a mobile biathlon lasershoot facility.
Wilder Kaiser also boasts the largest night skiing area in the Tirol. The three-kilometre-long floodlit system in Soll is being extended by a further three runs in Hochsoll and be equipped with a permanently installed snow making system.
If the 279 kilometres of pistes isn't quite enough for you, purchase a Kitzbueheler Alpen AllStarCard to gain access to more than 1000 kilometres of pistes and 350 cable cars. This ticket combines seven famous ski areas in the Tirol and Salzburg: Alpbachtal, Kitzbuehel, Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang, Schneewinkel, SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, Hochtal Wildschonau, and Zell am See-Kaprun.
The SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental ski area is open from Dec. to April every year.
The Wilder Kaiser offers a wide range of non-skiing activities, including snowtubing, tobogganing, snowshoeing, winter hiking trails, and spas.
The 14.5 kilometres of toboggan runs in the Wilder Kaiser region are very popular, especially the runs Astberg-Ellmau-Going and the one from Hochsoll to Soll; here the funicular railways are opened in the evening and the toboggan runs are illuminated till 2 a.m. Other popular toboggan runs include Tannbichlkapelle in Going, the track from the Graspoint-Niederalm (with sledge rental) in Going, and the illuminated toboggan run at Steinacker in Scheffau.
Wilder Kaiser features 113 kilometres of romantic winter hiking trails through some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Tirol. Snowshoe walkers and ski tourers can enjoy the freedom of the mountains. Guided tours with guides can be booked.
Innsbruck is the closest airport to the Wilder Kaiser just an hour's drive away.
