First-hand Reports

Stevens Pass Resort +

The skiing is like New England, a 1/4 inch layer of groomer fleck and hard hard hard pack. Sharpen your skates unless it warms up to 60 or you'll be sliding around. ( also they're hosting races tmw, so better off working on wing recipes than trying to slice around with the masses- sun was nice though

The hill never softened today.  The only way down on the back side was the track around corona, then turn right 1/2 way down at the cat track to take the long way around to the bottom.  The main track could not be groomed so it was frozen solid.  The front side was pretty icy also, even Skid Road down Tye was icy.  40-50+mph, because you could not stop on the main slope. Fortunately, there was hardly anyone there.  The tombstones are sticking up all over on all of our favorite runs. Underneath Tye Mill chair upper half was mostly bare rocks and dirt.  I am surprised they are still operating. The center track of Barrier and the ridge were about the only areas somewhat skiable.  Because most of the people there were skiing it.  Even there, it was quite icy.  If you go, sharpen your edges.  It will help some. Until the sun is higher in the sky, too much of the area is still shaded and doesn't soften, even on the backside. Because there were so few people I skied until almost 3:00 p.m, but I didn't get there until 10:00 a.m. If there had been many more people I probably would have made a couple of runs and come home. Of the last couple of weeks today was beautiful, but somewhat treacherous.
