Clearly different from other reviews. Very much a beginner, intermediate area and therefore excellent for families, especially once-a-year skiiers who need to be flattered! Zell am Zee (as opposed to Kaprun) has only 3 black runs, and they do not overlap blue and red runs. The mountain is flat topped, and so there is plenty of varied skiing for everyone at the top. Like all kids our 5 year old has progressed rapidly under excellent tuition. The area really is in four parts; lots of runs centered on the summit; lots of long runs and routes (all bar 2 red and blue) down to resorts or mid-points; a separate but connected new area that takes a bit of getting to but offers first class skiing; and the beginners area where two of the gondolas depart for the summit and the new area. We do agree about the bars and restaurants - all good value. The nightlife is mainly hotel based, and therfore fairly steady on any pulsation scale; as we said, it seems mainly a family resort. This will be our third trip, and likely to have one more trip next year with a number of families.
