Edelweiss is one of a handful of ski hills within a 40 minute drive of Ottawa. It's best known for having one of the more advanced snow parks of the local hills - as well as a decent tubing area. $20 for 2 hours of tubing is a good deal for friends who want a day on the hill but don't want to ski/board.
Unfortunately, for most other skiers/boarders this place lacking. For beginners, there is a basic magic carpet slope which is so flat that it's difficult to get down. The next level of hill is the main hill - parts of which are more intermediate/blue..and not great for first-time or beginner skiers/boarders.
For expert skiers, there is little in the way of challenge here - Streif is the steepest trail, and it is only steep for a very small portion of the trail. There is little variety of terrain - no moguls or glade areas. The majority of the time is spent bombing small slope sections so that you can get up uphill sections. There are a lot of places where use of poles is necessary.
One positive of this hill is a high-speed detachable quad... though it usually has a long a lift line, which never managed. Locals seem to enjoy cutting the line. The other lifts are some of the slowest in the region, and often not running.
Overall, if you want a place to go tubing, or are a park nut, this is a good place. If you want to learn to ski, or are seeking a challenge - there are better hills in the area.
