Piedmont is a region entirely surrounded by the Alps and peppered with many well-equipped, interconnected ski resorts where you can ski for days and days without ever taking the same slope twice. There are downhill and cross country trails for all ability levels.

The mountains in Piedmont are an ideal place to relax and have fun. In the winter the Alps turn into a “White Galaxy”, a large system dedicated to winter sports lovers, able to offer ski fans over a thousand kilometers of slopes.

And for cross country skiers its possible to explore the numerous, interconnected valleys, a tour which starts from the Maritime Alps and which ends on the peaks of the Lepontine Alps in Verbano Cusio Ossola.

In the summer the mountains change and the valleys are covered with colorful plants and wild fruits which attract a wide variety of animals.

Every valley is crisscrossed by hiking trails of different difficulty levels. Those who want to trek can follow the Via Alpina, a 1000 km of trails and refuges which connect Monviso to Val Formazza.

The Piedmont Alps are also important from a cultural point of view and conserve important historical testimonies like the Fort of Fenestrelle. Perched between Chisone Valley and the Valley of Susa, it's known as Italy's “Great Wall of China” for the way it snakes up the mountain for 3 km.

The principal ski areas in Piedmont are the Olympic mountains to the east, the valleys of the Cuneo province to the south, Valsesia and the Ossola valleys to the north, including Monte Rosa, and the Lanzo valleys and Canavese valleys to the north west, with the Gran Paradiso National Park.
