Very Crowded, Expensive, Quality of snow, Trails get hit with Sun, NO BAR!

Full review

If the conditions are right and you're there during the week or for first tracks in the morning before everyone gets there Whitetail can be nice. It has a nice green serviced by a slow quad -- mountain left -- that's great for beginners who want to elevate their skills and start skiing blues. There's also some smaller jumps over there too. That said, the snow is highly suspect. The mountain seems to get hit with a lot of sun and runs can get slushy -- even in February. It's also insanely crowded. Buses pull up and loads of beginners pour onto the slopes. They have crowd control set-up at the lifts but, lift lines can get pretty long. The blues in the middle of the mountain are essentially identical. The black far mountain right is pretty nice if the snow is good. I have had some good runs at Whitetail. It's definitely scenic for how close it is to DC and Baltimore. But Whitetail is another 30-40 minutes of driving for me... perhaps my expectations are higher because it's supposed to have almost 1,000 of vert... but and I would rather go to Liberty because they at least have a bar! A beer or two makes waiting in long lift lines a little more bearable.
