We had been to Montage two years ago and swore we would not go back ever again. The conditions were horrible. We decided to take a chance, yesterday, when we knew they were under new management.
We were at Elk on Friday the day before and it was awesome. Conditions were great and of course the sun was shinning. Not all trails were open but most.
We got to Sno Mountain about 9:30am and saw they were blowing snow. It was cold enough. We did not realize until we were skiing that they were blowing snow on every run that was open! It was horrible! There are so many snow guns that when they are on, the only way to go down the mountain is under the guns. But of course the best snow is not there! You could not see where you were going because of this. Many people talking about it through the course of the day.
Topping it off, my husband went to ask if they were going to blow snow all day and was told yes. They had to take advantage of the temperatures. He suggested they either do it at night or rope off certain runs and do them periodically. He was told there were only 8 trails open and that was the way it was. Incidently, the service rep he talked to was very rude and did eventually walk away from him. Another girl working there did appologize. Blowing the snow during the day was questionable also because the forcast was calling for temperature below freezing during the day for a number of days to come!
It is great that they now have all this snow making equiptment. There are also other improvements that could make this mountain worthwile. But not until they treat the customers with more respect.
My husband refuses to go again. I may go if I know they are not blowing snow!
