Great Terrain, Nice Vertical, Less Crowded
No place to stay on mountain
Elk is absolutely the best place to ski in Pennsylvania. They have a good variety of terrain, the most (real) vertical in Pennsylvania, and they get a good deal of natural snowfall. Their lifts are all fixed grip and they have mostly double chairs so it may take you a little longer to get up hill, but the skiing is much better without the crowds that you find on the slopes of other resorts. The beginner area is nice and wide with a good fall line. The intermediate trails are good pitch and give a nice long run each time and their advanced terrain is nice and steep (for PA). They even have decent bumps on Tunkhannock. After a storm there is some pretty good skiing in the woods if you are into that sort of thing, just don't get caught.
This is the closest thing to skiing in New England with out the long drive from Pennsylvania.
