In summary, Blue Mountain Ski area was the most disorganized facility of any that we have traveled to.
Our family loves snow sports and decided to try a new place this year and we were profoundly disappointed with the ski area.
Ski School & Nursery: We are a family of four with a 6 year old daughter and 2 year old son. Above all else, the explorer’s ski school was exceptional. The staff was helpful, courteous, patient, and my daughter had a wonderful time. She enjoyed two full day sessions and learned a lot each day. Our son enjoyed the kind and caring staff at the nursery!
Ski Rentals: My husband and I dropped off our daughter at Explorers by 9 and our son at the nursery by 10. We waited well over an hour to rent skis from the facility. The rental room was too small and too disorganized to manage the mass of people. By the time we actually got on the slope, it was noon and we got one run before returning to the nursery to get our son for lunch. Added to this, we had to deal with more than one incredibly rude teenage employee during the rental process.
Main Lodge: My two year old son and I waited 40 minutes to order food from the main lodge and then walked aimlessly for another 20 minutes to find a table. We eventually settled on eating on the floor because my poor child was starved. The lodge is completely incapable of accommodating its guest!!
Snow Tubing: Our little family of four paid $100 to spend two hours waiting in line for two brief 30 second runs down the snow tube hill. To add to our frustration, no one bothered to inform us that we would need to jump out of the tube at the top of the hill. Due to this lack of information, all four of us got thrown out of the tube at the top. My six year old daughter was crying hysterically and my son was horrified (He refused to do a second run). This was nothing short of infuriating! Not only the quality of the ride, but the fact that I got ripped off $100 for the resorts poor organization.
I assure you that we will not return to Blue Mountain. There are a number of resorts in PA that offer great skiing without the complete disorganization and rude personnel.
