Long trails, fast lifts, great snow making, great views
can get crowded, very icy in the evenings
As a beginner, I thoroughly enjoyed Blue Mountain. It hadn't snowed in a while, yet their snow-making ability is phenomenal. The artificial snow seems fresh, and soft. I went at about 4pm and snowed till close on a Thursday and it got pretty crowded, but not as bad as Shawnee. This mountain is in the middle of nowhere so make sure you have plenty of gas in your car on the way out.
I've been on the blue trails at Shawnee, but the blue trails at Blue Mountain were really tough for me. I guess every mountain has its own version of what they feel is a tough trail.
The beginners trails were really long and winding, and had great views. They were uncrowded so I could practice at my own pace, without being afraid of people running into me. Coupled with the fast lifts, this mountain has the best skiing to offer in the poconos, from a beginners point of view.
