The Canyons is definitely a unique resort and different to most of the run of the mill ski resorts. This has both positive and negative aspects. The positives are that there are a large amount of awesome tree runs plus you also have the opportunity (if you are persistent) to get away from the crowds). The canyons covers a large lateral area and I believe is situated across 6 different mountains. Due to this if you are persistent and can plot your way across the mountains you can end up skiing on runs where you do not come across any skiers other than the party that you are out with. This lead to us literally skiing onto the chairlift with no queue at all. This definitely allows one to be significantly more expressive and allows one to plot their own course down a run without dodging anyone. The down side to this though, is if you do not pack your own lunch then you will need to traverse back to the main mountain area for any on mountain food. The Canyons is definitely a beautiful resort and the aspen groves add an extra element to the resort that adds more character. Overall one needs to either be prepared to be skiing with the masses or commit to traversing over the mountain to get away from the crowds.

TIP: If you are from out of Utah and want a cheap (free day) skiing or snowboarding, the park city resorts allow you to ski for free the day you arrive in Utah. You need to present an out of state license, your boarding pass and before you leave fill out an on line application on the park city tourist website.
