Park City has a silver mining past and it's a town that has all the boisterous action you'd expect that remains a legacy from that history. But, today, it's much more. You can be skiing or snowboarding in the afternoon if you fly into Salt Lake City International Airport in the morning. How's that for close?

The old town's Main Street is lined with boutiques, galleries, and restaurants that have managed to blend old with new. Nightlife, despite some long-held misconceptions to the contrary about Utah, truly rocks out. Come during the famed Sundance Film Festival and you'll have the slopes to yourself while the glittery Hollywood crowd sleeps off the night before. You'll catch a good movie or two, as well.

Park City Mountain Resort itself is broad and steep, and offers some of the most varied terrain in the Wasatch Range. This is home base and training site for U.S. Skiing, the parent corporation of all the American snow sports teams.

There are 15 lifts and you can ski or ride on more than 3,300 acres. The top elevation is 10,000 feet. Park City Mountain Resort (most just refer to it as Park City) has a superb ski and snowboarding school and plenty of lodging right at the mountain.

The Canyons is just plain big. There are 3,500 skiable acres and terrain for everyone. You'll find long, cushy cruisers, steep and deep adrenalin enhancers, and wide, appealing bowls. It's only four miles from town and the accompanying nightlife.

The Canyons Grand Summit Hotel is at the base, and the Sundial Lodge is steps away. Both lodges boast a variety of luxury-appointed, family-friendly lodging options from studios to multi-bedroom condominiums.

The third resort in Park City is Deer Valley, where Stein Eriksen, the charming Olympian of many moons ago, is your host. You'll swear he hasn't aged. Deer Valley prides itself on its commitment to customer service - and consistently raises the bar for itself in this regard.

It may be posh, but it's actually a comfortable resort. Deer Valley was designed and built to bring a new sense of elegance and excitement to the skiing experience. The resort has gone to great lengths to keep its slopes relatively uncrowded and the skier experience one of heightened enjoyment and excitement.

The gateway airport is Salt Lake International. It's just a short drive, but you won't need a car when you get here. Best bet is to take one of the several shuttle services.
