La Plagne is a huge, huge resort that gets more than 2.5 million visitors a year, so there's few in the world any bigger. It actually has 10 different bases and I've stayed in 4 of them over the past five years. They're very different and each has their pros and cons. One time I stayed in Plagne 1800 which is high up on the mountain - as about half of them are - so great to get straight on to the slopes, but it as pretty soul-less places with just a few average bars and a couple of shops.

Last time I stayed in Plagne Montalbert which is down in the valley and a real village though it has grown a lot recently. I liked it more, there were some great bars and restaurants. It was less well connected to the ski area though - down in one corner, and though it has a great snow record and was well deep when we visited, I thought it might be dodgy at the ends of the season in a bad year.
