Hoodoo is a great local ski area. It's pretty small by Oregon standards, but the massive snowfall, great terrain, and very low prices make it an excellent place to ski or ride. Even though it is smaller and lower in elevation than Willamette Pass and Mount Bachelor, it gets more snow. Make sure you have fat boards if you go there after a storm because the powder will be deep! There are lots of steeps and lots of great off-piste areas. The owner is friendly and you can often see him out plowing the parking lot.
Hoodoo probably has the best website out of any ski area in the country. It's not about marketing or getting you to rent a hotel room, it's about letting you know what's going on at the mountain. They have all kinds of weather sensors (temperature, snow depth, webcams) so you know exactly what the conditions are like. If it's great, they'll tell you, and if it sucks, they'll tell you.
If you really want a terrain park and halfpipe, you'll have to go somewhere else. If you want great skiing/riding for a good price, Hoodoo is excellent.
