Absolutely love Orelle for fast access to excellent snow

I can't believe Orelle doesn't score more highly for all mountain terrain - it has incredible freeride. I've lived in the valleys for 3 years and I know it's one of the quietest places with some of the best scenery and off-piste potential anywhere in the region. And with a short gondola ride to this with no queues. Very rare and valuable in this part of the world!
All about the freeride, amazing terrain and often untouched - very different to VT!
It's not a place for après but I think this has appeal

Orelle itself is actually a series of hamlets grouped together into one commune. The 3Vs Express goes up from Francoz to the start of the skiing and from there there is a chair to the edge of the Val Thorens domain, with the 3Vs beyond. Accommodation is inexpensive but there is not much in the way of nightlife (one bar at the bottom of the gondola and another in the apartments). I like it because I have a choice, the mega 3Vs area or about 7 or 8 other resorts a short drive away, it is very easy to get to (2hrs from Lyon or Geneva, one from Chambery and 6km from the motorway) and the people are great, both friendly and helpful.
Low cost access to a mass of skiing
No nightlife
Don't expect to go to Orelle for the nightlife and local atmosphere. It is what it claims to be, an easy to reach and inexpensive base for skiing in the Trois Vallees with a long gondola taking you up to the "Fourth Valley" skiing, with a (wind prone) link to Val Thorens. It also has the advantage of being very near to the resorts of the Maurienne Valley, so on a snowy day the tree lined runs of La Norma are a safe haven and a trip to Val Cenis or Valmeinier/Valloire keeps the costs of lift passes down - you can even get to Sauze d'Oulx in 45 mins. The accommodation is all apartments, most in the Hameau des Eaux d'Orelle complex but others scattered around the various hamlets that make up Orelle itself.
Easy and quick access to the 3Vs
Few local facilities
