  • Alpe d'Huez Opens

    More resorts in France will open this weekend including Alpe d'Huez (pictured). In France 300 very lucky competition winners will enjoy exclusive use of the Espace Killy on Friday (November 28th) which links the resorts of Tignes and Val d'Isere. During the weekend there'll be special new season gear testing to start the season at Val d'Isere, which has some of the deepest snow in the country waiting - two metres (nearly seven feet) on upper slopes.   • Grand Massif Fully Open

    France's Grand Massif ski area was fully open at the weekend. The area covers five ski resorts, amongst which there is currently 80cm (32 inches) of snow in Flaine and 95cm (38 inches) above the slopes at Samoens 1600, and 120cm (four feet) at the top on the ski area. Full Article

  • Vanoise Express Re-Opens On Saturday

    The Vanoise Express cable car, a key artery of the Paradiski (Les Arcs-La Plagne) ski area, will re-open on Saturday 20 December, in time for the start of the 2008/09 winter season. At the end of several months' work to replace its four load-bearing cables, the Vanoise Express has passed all the required safety tests under the supervision of the Departmental Public Works Authority. After two weeks of testing, the departmental supervisory body granted official approval for the cable car to be put into service and opened to skiers. Full Article

  • Tignes Opens For Summer Skiing In Bikinis

    Tignes is the second French resort to open for summer skiing after Les 2 Alpes a week ago. To celebrate the resort staged a bikini ski event in which a small number of enthusiasts took to the snow slopes clad only in swimwear and ski boots. Ski gloves, eye protection and sun cream were also allowed in this ‘competition.' Full Article

    Chamonix reported 20cm of snow right down to 1200m (just above resort level) over the weekend of October 8th/9th. This was part of a widespread snowfall across the Alps bringing up to 80cm of new snow to some already-open glacier ski areas. Full Article
