The potential is enormous but the pists are not well groomed, most of them not at all. The snow generators barely operate, so not so much fun when there is no fresh snow
long pists
very poor pist preparation, long lines

Sadly this will be my first and last trip to Les Arcs; the whole place is overloaded and overcapacity - they've built huge new hotels and apartment blocks which have made the place like a busy motorway - it's all about high volume which means the pistes are skied out quickly and there are large queues at the lifts and if you have lunch on the pistes everywhere is very crowded and not such great food either. There is little on piste respect - probably because of the overcrowding - but if you are skiing off piste in which case you'll have a good time if the snow is OK. I've never written a negative review about anywhere before but someone has to say something about this place and the overdevelopment/overcapacity
easy to get to from the UK, not expensive
extremely overcrowded, everywhere is designed for high volume, over capacity

We have skied here for many years and this will be the last. For the first week of March there is plenty of snow, but the piste preparation is unusually poor. Very little grooming is taking place with the result that many runs have many moguls so people are not skiing them making the other runs very crowded. The new 900 bed Club Med hotel at Arc 1600 has totally overloaded the lift system and we have experienced worse lift queues this week than in any previous first week of March. Les Arcs has been a great place for us for many years, but it is time for us to move on.
Easy resort with a good variety of runs and mountain restaurant s
Inadequate lift infrastructure

This is the first time I have skied here with the family and found it very user friendly. Plenty of things to see and do on the pistes. Timed runs, moguls, play parks and sledge runs. Good lift system. Plenty of places to eat and drink on the piste and back in the villages.
Arc 1800 is in the heart of the slopes. Brilliant for average skiers as wherever you go there will be a slope to get you back. Snow even when temps are high. Plenty of ski schools
Would recommend for families.

Was there last year but have visited in the past. Amazed at brilliant snow conditions at Easter. Expected to be limited but absolutely brilliant Sun and snow. Going again this year. Stayed in self catering in Arcs 1600 (I think). Excellent. Was hoping for quiet slopes but the excellent weather had brought out the French in numbers for a last ski of the season. Not complaining -- only very envious that they have the Alps! Adequate shops, cafes, bars. Went with family and granddaughters and their friends. Highlight for them were the two cross-country runs over the top of L'Arpette which we had to keep going back to. There were also two natural half pipes that proved to be a lot of fun and a couple of timed runs which worked quite well. (91 KPH and 70 years old!) Also plenty of of piste fun trails through the trees. We had ski lift passes for one day in La Plagne and spent one day there. Excellent but no need for any more. Booked up for this coming winter half term. Looking forward to it immensely.
Large, fun pistes

Good range of slopes, however not very Many for beginners and the blacks for the more advanced riders arent groomed daily so become very uncomfortable to ski. However with the overall size of the avalibile terrain to ski on, definitely value for money.

Useful information for travelling from Bourg St Maurice to various local places. On my visit there was no snow on the roads travelled. I cannot stress: buy the IGN contour map 3532 ET it shows all the lifts, except Val d'Isere and Tignes. By train Bourg St Maurice to Moutiers:- Buy tickets but check monitors...You could be travelling by bus and not the train! Bourg St Maurice to St Foy Tarenteise by bus:- I waited for the 8-10am bus, nothing at 8-05, so confirmed with the Val d'Isere bus driver that he is to stop at St Foy 'village', this bus also leaves at 8-10am. and goes via St Foy 'village', (obviously best your skis are easy to get to when getting off the bus!) When you are dropped off, their should be a free bus waiting for you, this takes approx. 15 minutes to get you to the St Foy skiing area (Bon Conseil). Now I wanted to get the 2-00pm Belle Savoie bus back to B St M. The free bus leaves the ski area at 1-35pm. tell the driver to stop at St Foy 'village' before he deviates up to La Masure (this detour he does only on the return), otherwise you will miss the 2-00pm bus. You will have to walk 200 or so metres to where you got off the B St M bus, so make a note of the hotel/restaurant area where you were dropped off.Useful information for travelling from Bourg St Maurice to various local places.
B St M is a good base
None that I can think of

Had a great weeks skiing, accommodation was fab, the usual Intrawest build and comfort standards where we stayed at Le Village 1950. The resort is split between the varying levels, 1600/1800/1950/2000 and its easy to ski between them. 1950 and 2000 is joined by a funicular which operates quite late. There are quite a few restaurants and a couple of bars, quite pricey but thats to be expected for a nice resort, there is a Spar on site too that does most of the necessities. If you are driving there are some supermarkets on the road up in Saint Bourg Maurice. The biggest let down for us was that we went as a family of 3 and our 3 1/2 yr old was booked into spirit 1950 ski school club, the club ran between 0930 and 1145. The club usually started at around 0940 where they walked up the village and skied a bit back down again then the group of 10 had 2 runs on the magic carpet then they went in for at least 30 min break to the caribou club (daycare centre) when they came out again they had another 2 runs by the magic carpet before finishing at 1130. One of us hung around as our child was a bit upset being left the first day but ended up helping as when the kids went down the run the one helper at the bottom wasnt able to catch all the kids, there was no run off so they would have ended up down the slope in the trees....quite a funny thought to some, but not when you can see your own kid about to disappear!! There was one instructor from the school and one daycare centre staff, not enough to control the group when on the slope. The instructor did not interact with the children, 'just the usual 'hands on the knees' and 'skis like a pizza wedge'. When we tried to escape we watched from a distance and our child was really upset and the instructor just looked at her and then walked away leaving her sobbing, quite a look on his face when we reappeared! So your probably getting the gist here, fab accommodation, rubbish ski school for young children, i cant comment for the older children and adults, it may be great but was just really disappointed with the overall experience for our child, as she had a great time in a private lesson the year before in Flaine. For the same price as ski school she could have had 4 hour long private lessons at ESF at Les Arcs 2000. Its really easy access up to 2000 so dont worry about getting up there. On up side the skiing is excellent, the area has a great variety of terrain and its easy to link between the resorts and across to La Plagne if you like.
Comfort, skiing, lifts, cleanliness, helpful, accessible
Price of eating, poor in resort ski school (1950)
