Hotel Neige et Roc, 2953 route des Ardoisieres, 74110 Morzine-Avoriaz (+33(0)4 50 79 03 21). This four-star hotel is set in an old Savoyard farmhouse directly on the slopes at an altitude of 1,300m. Amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, sauna, fitness room and garden with south-facing terrace. Double, triple and quad rooms all have flat-screen TV, WIFI, and most have balconies. The onsite restaurant serves traditional fare with local ingredients.

Mid-Level

Hotel des Dromonts, 40 Place des Dromonts, F-74110 Avoriaz (+33(0)4 50 74 08 11). This three-star hotel is ideally located in the centre of the pedestrianized resort. The website accurately describes its façade as “a contemporary pine cone”. Highlights include direct access to the slopes with ski-in/ski-out access; treatments at the Thalgo Spa; and a highly acclaimed restaurant “La Table du Marche” with terraces and a lively piano bar with fireplace.

Hotel Les Lans, 2394 route des Ardoisieres, F74110 Morzine-Avoriaz (+33(0)4 50 79 00 90). This three-star, family-run hotel is 300m from the Prodains lift up to Avoriaz. The large, chalet-style interior features simple, modern en-suite rooms, a bar with fireplace, and restaurant serving regional French specialities such as Fondue Savoyard and Braserade. Half-board option available.

Economy

Hotel Beauregard, Les Bois Venants, 74110 Morzine (+33(0)4 50 79 11 05). This two-star, family-run hotel offers pretty basic, but very clean and well-maintained guestrooms. In the evening there is a fixed menu, but the food is reliably good and varies each night. Plus, the hotel is very close to the Super Morzine cable car for easy access to Avoriaz.

Chalets/Apartments

A range of well-equipped, self-catering apartments are available for two- to 12 people. Pierre & Vacances’ Atria-Crozats and L’Amara new apartment complexes are popular. The stylish Atria-Crozats offers doorstep skiing, a spa with sauna, steam room and gym. And the L’Amara has a pool, spacious lounge, large terrace with views, underground parking and a wealth of dining options. Both are bookable through Inghams and Crystal. Other apartment options include France Loc, Maeva and SG2P. One of the most highly rated chalets is the 12-person Chalet Jean France right next to the piste. For more chalet options in Avoriaz, Ski Total has the widest choice.

    Avoriaz = Paysage magnifique

    Pros: Beau Paysage, Descente d'exception, snowpark énorme

    Pros: Very friendly for a French resort
    Cons: Too many button lifts (some are very rough)

    First truly car-free ski resort

    Pros: Quiet, good long runs,fast lifts, hardly any waiting
    Cons: Utopia without the downside.

    Pros: Huge area, tightly clustered village
