Our first trip to Sugar Mountain was in Feb 2004 - to escape Mardi Gras here in Louisiana. We loved it and had a great time! This was our first snow and ski experience of any kind and we just wanted to give it a try before trying the serious resorts in the Rockies. My son, 11 at the time, just want to snowboard and it was great place for first timers. We then tried Gatlinburg in 2005 - but it was just too crowded by comparison and we are leaving this week to go back to Sugar Mountain. Its a 14 hour drive and reasonably priced for a quick trip. We can't wait to to see BIG snow and BIG mountains in Colorado and Utah, but until we can get up there, Sugar Mountain is a great alternative! BTW - if it snows or sleets, I'll be the one driving SLOW! with white knucles too! :0)
