Full review

We've been skiing Sugar for about 7 years. Since it was the only place we had skied in the SE, we thought it was okay. However, we tried Appalachian today and had a much better experience. Sugar's price for lift tickets is high and the lift lines long. The lifts are slow. There are only a couple of choices for our ability level. We have always rented equipment from Extreme Ski at the entrance to Sugar Mtn. They have much better equipment and helpful employees. The staff at Sugar's rental dept. aren't very helpful and the equipment is very used. Many of the lift operators don't speak English, making it difficult when we've had questions or need assistance, although they seem willing and as helpful as possible. The snow making machines blow constantly - good for snow but uncomfortable while riding the lifts and skiing. The snack bar offers the usual fast food (hot dogs, pizza, etc.), and cold sandwiches and is extremely over-priced. The dining area is very crowded and not very clean. Overall the lodge is showing wear and tear.
