This was our second trip to Cataloochee. Learning from last time we resisted the urge to start skiing on Friday late afternoon already as this will cost a fortune for a relatively short period of time - since Cataloochee does not issue 24hr passes.
Kids Cat Trackers program is great! Slightly disorganized - OK - but the staff is great! It is important to know that rental equipment including helmet, lift tickets, and even snack & lunch are included! If you start adding all that up the lessons themselves are really not very expensive. Plus your kids make a lot more miles on the mountain because they have priority access at the lifts which is a BIG thing on busy days.
BUT - it is at a first come first served basis so one of us would go up the mountain to buy tickets for Cat Trackers as early as 7 am...
Verrrry busy with beginners on weekends! Cataloochee needs to better train their lift staff as very often only one or 2 persons ride a 3 or 4 person chairlift!!! And: beginners are just rocketing down that mountain creating hazardous situations at the base. But - it is a great little mountain to have, we were so lucky with snow on Feb 16 and great weather all President's day weekend it was AWESOME!
