I have taken my older teenage boys snowboarding here several times, and it is always a great experience. The last time we went was in January 2024. Parking is very easy, but you have to reserve in advance. This works out great for crowd control. Excellent lockers, and they rent winter clothing if you need it. It also helps that this is the closest resort to our home in Raleigh. Staff has always been friendly, and the electronic passes are great! We have been to nearby Sugar Mountain, which has longer runs, but I prefer App. It has a great vibe, and even when full, the waits are not too long.
Great place for intermediate snowboarding, easy access and parking
small number of slopes

Based on a recommendation from someone at another ski resort we visited App Mountain. we were so glad we did. It was such an enjoyable day. From reserving tickets and rentals to the lift lines, trails and cafeteria TOP NOTCH. we had a rough day at Beech mountain yesterday but happy with our time at App. Employees were friendly, COVID restrictions were adhered to. Highly recommend and will visit again.

I had a great day at Appalachian resort today. I hadn't been skiing for several years and am now over 65, so I was a little nervous about getting back on the slopes. Online reservations were very easy. The staff providing the rental equipment were friendly and helpful. And the fellow at the lift near the blue Strudel slope (his name was Ben) was so enthusiastic towards every person riding the lift, cheering everyone on to have a fun run. It made me laugh each time and helped me have a fun day. The resort did a good job managing the issues around Covid, requiring masks and limiting the number of people inside. Snow conditions were as good as could be expected, with the ups and downs of the temperatures. There was an adequate amount of manmade snow on the slopes.
Very friendly staff

Amazing experience! Great for kids and beginners- probably good for experienced skiers too but we're not there yet so can't comment! Great ski teachers, friendly staff, plenty of parking and restrooms, good rental equipment, cheap locker rental. Good snowmaking, magic carpet lifts to bunny slopes. Didn't feel too crowded even on holiday weekend. We bought tickets online which gave us an extra hour, and getting set up with our equipment was fast and easy! Great experience, can't wait to come back next year!
Friendly staff, great snowmaking, good areas for beginners!

This resort is very nice. The people are friendly. They do a great job at snow making and grooming. The entire place is well-kept (unlike the other 2 resorts in the area). Parking lot is nice and easy. A very pleasant place. You can tell that the owners want you to have a good experience.
Friendly, Nice people, they make tons of snow
Short runs

We went skiing to ASM for the first time last week. I felt that the slopes and snow quality were decent considering it's North Carolina. The ski school was ok - I took two private lessons which were good, my toddler did the ski school on two separate days (a Fri and a holiday Sat which turned out to be busy so she didn't get so much actual skiing in). We decided to book to go back in Feb. We thought a ski & stay package would offer financial incentives and/or convenience. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer either and the ski & stay package agents refuse to admit that. Within less than 24 hours of booking, I realized that they didn't give us the best available lodging rate (booking with the lodge directly would have been cheaper). I called and they told me I could cancel and re-book for a 10% fee... I escalated our case to a manager and she was quite unprofessional and used poor language. For example, she gave me a lecture on how Americans need to walk more when I complained that, once on the mountain, I now have to go to their office before checking in for ski school which is a hassle with a toddler and all the gear in tow. As another example, she actually told me that my frustrations and complains were "ludicrous". Next time, I plan to book everything separately and not deal with the bad service.
Decent slopes and snow quality
Ski & Stay packages are a joke

WARNING: Appalachian Ski Mountain engages in DECEPTIVE MARKETING PRACTICES! Since my kids have been begging to see snow (we live in Florida) I decided to take them to a ski resort in North Carolina after our visit to friends in Georgia. Being on a tight budget I looked at rates and saw that I could save money by buying half-day lift tickets. Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain both had half-day tickets (as do all the ski resorts I ever remember skiing at when I lived out west). Appalachian Ski did not, but their 2018-2019 rates brochure said that they had a “4-hour early return option” and that if you return to the cashier before the four hours were up they would give you an App Ski Mtn. debit card. Since we were visiting a friend in Boone and Appalachian was closer, I decided to take my kids there. After renting ski clothes first I’m about to buy the tickets when I am informed that I do not get any money back when returning my gear within four hours. Instead I get credit that is good for lift ticket and ski rentals only! Since I’m 45 minutes away from the other ski resorts and I’ve already rented the clothing (and had no extra time) I was stuck! I bought the tickets and let my kids learn how to ski. As far as customer service goes, I felt that their method of enticement on a half-day option was very deceptive. When the standard practice of MOST other ski resorts is to offer half-day tickets why does Appalachian Ski Mountain offer debit cards and then make them usable ONLY for use for their lift tickets and rentals?!!! Even if I could have used the debit card in the cafeteria or the gift shop it would have helped! Not very customer friendly. I’ll never go their again!

Brought my 11 year old son here for his second time snowboarding. There is something so special about this place. It feels super familiar to me in a really comforting way. I was able to keep an eye on my son as he snowboarded and I hung out on the balcony. Thanks to Pace at the ski school for your kindness. We will definitely be back.

We went up with four kids and had a blast. Everyone was so welcoming and engaging. If you looked puzzled, there was someone always willing to answer a question and/or help out. My four kids took classes with the instructors and they were all engaging, helpful and knowledgable. They didn't let anyone slip behind or overlook anyone. If someone fell, they were immediately there to lend assistance. If you were limping, they were offering medic to come and help out. My kids can't wait to come back!
Excellent plave for families, especially with kids..
Seriously? Never found a con.
