First of all, Okemo looks the part. A former mill town before it became a ski area, Okemo blends a historic feel with new condos and conveniences that reflect the area’s old-timey charm. Add some snow and the sparkle of holiday lights, and you have a postcard-pretty Christmas scene.
Fun family events only add to the holiday cheer. On Christmas Day, Santa cruises the slopes with a bag full of treats that he dispenses to nice little riders. On December 27, the On-Snow Scavenger Hunt challenges families to find items hidden along kid-friendly trails. A December 28 torchlight parade illuminates the Open Slope trail with a parade of skiers and a fireworks display. And New Year’s Eve caters to families with early-evening ice skating, snowtubing, snowshoeing, mountain coaster rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, cookie decorating, bingo games and a trivia tournament. There’s even a DJ dance party and pizza dinner that lets families celebrate 2013 (and turn in early for a good night’s sleep).
That’s in addition to Okemo’s regular lineup of kid-friendly fun. A four-lane tubing hill lets family members race one another downhill. A snow mountain and igloo invites kids to climb, luge and tunnel in imaginative play. The Spring House fitness center includes a swimming pool and kiddie area with a frog slide and play fountains. The Amp Energy Big Air Bag lets guests leap from a thirty-foot-high platform—and dive into a giant pillow (like the ones that catch movie stuntmen). And the Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster lets families rocket across the snowy mountainside in sleds that reach 30 miles per hour. Click here for more information.
