It's a double whammy for Snowbird in Utah: in addition to winning Best Terrain in the Rockies, the resort takes home the 2013 OnTheSnow Visitors' Choice Award for Best Overall Terrain in North America. Snowbird certainly stacks up the stats: the Snowbird Tram transports 125 people 2,900 vertical feet in only seven minutes, providing access to some of the most-challenging terrain in North America. The resort also boasts an impressive 3,240-foot vertical drop, 2,500 skiable acres and 85 trails for a wide variety of ability levels (27% Beginner, 38% Intermediate, 35% Advanced).

WHERE TO GO FOR BEGINNER TERRAIN: While famous for its expert skiing, Snowbird is home to a wide variety of terrain geared toward beginners. Located to the far skiers left of the mountain, the Baby Thunder Lift is home to terrain that is perfect for skiers who are just figuring out how to slide on snow. For those who have never tried the sport, The Chickadee Lift area is great for learning how to ski or ride.

WHERE TO GO FOR INTERMEDIATE TERRAIN: Snowbird’s Mid-Gad Lift is perfect if you’re looking for intermediate terrain. Skiers and riders can lap Big Emma and Lower Bassackwards. Intermediates looking to test their mettle can lap the Gadzoom High-Speed Quad where runs like Lunch Run and Carobonate await.

WHERE TO GO FOR EXPERT TERRAIN: Advanced to expert skiers and riders love Snowbird. The Aerial Tram transports them to 11,000-foot Hidden Peak, where there is bountiful steep, expert terrain. Skiers can take the High Baldy Traverse and ski Fields of Glory or the Peruvian Gulch. Those looking for an audience can shred Silver Fox, Great Scott or Upper Cirque, all located directly beneath the Tram. Head off the back side and ski Mineral Basin, home to a wide variety of open bowls and steep terrain.
