Mammoth opens tomorrow after this week's storm dumped 6 feet of snow on the upper mountain with lower elevations getting a couple of feet. It's Mammoth's earliest opening in 15 years, and the resort is opening four weeks ahead of schedule.

In Europe the Austrian Alps picked up three new feet of early season snow, the biggest snowfall in 25 years. The glaciers should be phenomenal.

I skied A-Basin today. Really nice snow for so early. The Legend picked up 5 new inches overnight. A-Bay should be opening more terrain soon. I hear the skiing's nice over on Loveland, too, for mid-October.

Breck already has a nice proto-base building above 11,500' due to early snowstorms and cold temperatures. It already looks a lot like mid-November up there. The wind is re-distributing snow, and the bowls are already filling in. Breck might be opening a lot of terrain early this year if this keeps up! Breck will open Nov. 12.

Things are really picking up out in the Pacific Ocean. The MJO has gone active. The first big storm in the Sierra might, hopefully, be the first in a series of Pacific storms. Maybe we'll get a good old Pineapple Express.

Weather is not the same as climate; Global Warming refers to climate. When discussing 'climate' talk about trends that occur over a period of at least several years. The recent cold weather at Boreal does not disprove Global Warming, just as the recent warm weather at Alyeska does not prove it.
