Australasia's biggest chairlift

NZ$20 million has been spent at Turoa ski area on Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand's North Island for the coming season. A super high speed six seater chairlift will take skiers and boarders 1.4 kilometres towards the peak. Capable of transporting 3200 people per hour, the lift has a top speed of five metres per second. These figures alone make the chairlift Australasia's biggest. A new forty million litre reservoir for snowmaking ensures optimum coverage and the doors to a new on-mountain cafe and retail outlet also open on June 16. This is just the first stage of a NZ$50million development intended for Mt Ruapehu. -- Written by Rachael Oakes-Ash Check the Australian and New Zealand Snow Reports Sections for frequent updates!
