Where's the Snow this Weekend: Northeast Report 3/21/13

The most recent storm came through in a big way, bringing over a foot of powder to numerous resorts across the region.

Although the calendar says that spring has officially begun, the recent weather pattern has certainly said otherwise. Look for this cooler and snowy pattern to persist as we move into the latter part of March. Leading up to the weekend there will be quite a bit of moisture hanging around in the wake of the midweek storm that dropped a significant snowfall over a large portion of the region. This will mean plenty of cloud cover as well as some scattered snow flurries and showers. The only places that will see any accumulating snowfall will be the higher elevation resorts in the northern reaches of the region where as much as half a foot of additional fresh snow will fall by the time the work week comes to a close.

Over the weekend, some drier air will finally work in and some sunshine may return. Temperatures will remain very seasonable, if not just on the cool side of average. With all the new snow, this weather should make for an exceptional late season weekend of skiing and riding in the Northeast.

Looking toward the longer term, there is the chance for another snowstorm around Monday or Tuesday of next week. A storm will move across the Mid Atlantic and then offshore. Depending on the exact track, southern portions of the region could be the only ones that see accumulating snowfall. However, there is a change that the storm hooks northward after moving off the coast. In this scenario, more northern resorts could also get in on the action.

After a very disappointing and sudden end to the ski season last year, this year promises to be completely different. So get out there and enjoy these phenomenal conditions while they last!
