Five lady skiers at Crystal Mountain, MI.
Haven’t been skiing or boarding in a few years? Yes, even oldsters love to ride.
But if you haven't done either because older Americans just don't do things like that, or you're "too old, too creaky" to do it, stop the excuses, and stop acting what you think your age is.
Fun isn’t reserved for the under-60 set, and a few miles on the ol’ bod is no reason to stay indoors on the recliner or in front of a computer all winter.
That’s why Michigan’s Crystal Mountain Snow Sports School has combined some great deals for this and next season with specialized classes for senior skiers and snowboarders who have been away from the slopes for a while or, perhaps, are even just starting out.
Crystal Mountain’s new “Retired, Not Tired” program confronts the stereotypes of skiing and snowboarding; pairing seasoned instructors with smaller age appropriate groups.
The $29 per session includes lift ticket, rentals and a two-hour lesson. Compare that with a normal a la carte rate of at least $136. The lesson also includes arranged social activities including group lunches and skiing/boarding presentations.
Lesson topics include new equipment, modern techniques, plus tips on skiing or riding with the grandkids.
You’ll earn a certificate after three Wednesday and Thursday sessions good for discounts on fine dining, spa and health club, fitness classes, plus for a season pass to complete this season for just $42, and a 2013-2014 pass for just $99. That pass alone currently goes for $259. Crystal also normally offers 50 percent off lift tickets for seniors aged 60 and above. Just ask at the resort’s snow sports center for details.
