Michigan’s Marquette Mountain Brims With Pre-Spring Fun, Deals

While some Midwest ski resorts are already thinking of closing up shop in the next few weeks, Marquette Mountain in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is just getting started with its second, spring season.

Located within Marquette’s city limits, the area with a 600-foot vertical drop, 25 groomed runs and seven ungroomed tree ski runs in its East Glades area, all served by three chair lifts and one handle tow, is looking to operate at least into early April, and is offering several specials to keep boarders and skiers coming.

All this week, anyone living in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula can buy a $32 lift ticket for just $19 per day.

Sunday, March 10 is carload day. Pile as many friends and family in the vehicle of your choice, and all can run the slopes for just $50. The current record is 29 in a car.  Normal weekend lifts cost $42 adults, and $37 children, so if you match the record, the savings is more than $1,150.

The fun continues the next weekend, March 15-17, for MM’s spring carnival, which also coincides with PSIA Level 1-III instructor regional training and qualifying. Friday, there are free hot dogs for everyone, and Saturday fun includes lots of goofy events, including a traditional Scandinavian event, a footrace featuring men carrying women on a course. While there is no on-slope lodging, check out these places offering “skier special” packages.
