When cowboy culture meets the adrenaline of skiing, you know you’re in a Western ski town. The entertainment-riddled sport of skijoring comes to Silverton, Colo. on Feb. 16 and 17, taking over Blair Street for two afternoons of wild, wild western fun.
Participating skiers will be towed through a street-long obstacle course via horse, attempting to grab as many rings as possible while navigating a route filled with mandatory jumps.
Early registration is available for $50 on Friday, Feb. 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Grand Imperial. Day-of registration is $60 and will be held at the Bent Elbow on Blair Street beginning at 8:30 a.m. on both days. A cash purse is offered to the winners of each category.
The spectator-friendly event kicks off at 11:00 am on Saturday and Sunday, with free live music at the Grand Imperial and Miners Tavern on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively.
If you plan on skiing at Silverton Mountain, don’t forget to reserve your days at the mountain, as Silverton puts a cap on the number of daily visitors and will likely sell out over President’s Weekend. To reserve a spot at Silverton, click here, or call 970-387-5706 within 24 hours of your ski date.
