Idaho’s Sun Valley Resort continues to beef up its terrain park. For the fourth season in a row, more terrain park expansions on Dollar Mountain are offering locals and visitors increased challenges. Visitors can also get a ski free deal with lodging to try out the terrain park.
Snow Park Technologies has overseen the development of the Dollar Mountain terrain park, which has continued to add improvements annually. The list of boxes and rails has ballooned to 70 features, and currently the family cross course, Progression Park, and Medium Park are up and running.
This year, a new superpipe and a new cross course are slated for installation. The superpipe has moved to Dollar Mountain’s Old Bowl, where it will sport 22-foot-high walls. The move and expansion, which boost the pipe up to Olympic and X-Game specifications, increase the size by 25 percent from the old superpipe it replaces.

Sun Valley’s terrain park crew plans to open the new superpipe as soon as it can be cut — potentially this week. The larger jumps and new cross course are slated for installation following the superpipe.
For skiers and snowboarders at Sun Valley, Dollar Mountain lift tickets cost less than Baldy lift tickets. An adult lift ticket costs $59, which runs $40 less than the Baldy ticket. A child ticket costs $40. Multi-day tickets are available, too.
The resort is running a ski free package this winter. By booking one night of accommodation in Sun Valley Lodge or Sun Valley Inn, terrain park visitors can ski free. The ski and stay package, which starts at $139 double occupancy, is available between Jan. 3 and March 31 with some blackout dates. Skiers can also expand the package with multiple nights.
