Expedition: Kirkwood Offers Private Guides, Camps, Clinics and More

Kirkwood is known for its broad range of advanced skiing terrain and lift-accessed backcountry opportunities. Expedition: Kirkwood is for avid skiers and boarders to learn the mountain through a variety of offerings such as private guides, specialty ski and board clinics, and avalanche and backcountry awareness training across the mountain’s world-class terrain.

Private Guides

Receive professional coaching, learn the tips and tricks of the mountain and never wait in a lift line by taking a private guide. These are offered in two- to six-hour increments and can be done in individual or group settings.

EK Cat Tours

Expedition Guides and Patrollers lead groups for cat skiing following significant storms for fresh turns at Martin Point or Red Cliffs. This is open to advanced to expert skiers and riders, and avalanche beacons, probes and backpacks are provided.

Camps

Advanced to expert skiers can take part one of the Steeps Camps, which offers terrain exploration and skill development in off-piste conditions. Women can take part in any of the one-day or three-day camps for intermediate to expert skiers and riders.

New this season is the Backcountry Camp. It is an intensive in class and on mountain four-day camp that follows the American Institute of Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) guidelines for a Level 1 Certificate.

Clinics

Progression sessions are for skiers and boarders to advance technique and skill in these two-hour sessions. These clinics focus on skiing and riding whatever the day’s conditions are.

Backcountry Awareness Clinics are offered to teach basic skills, such as avalanche awareness and avoidance, equipment usage, snow observations and safe terrain travel.

Located across from the Village Plaza is Expedition: Kirkwood Outfitters. Here you can sign up for EK programs, courses or clinics, as well as rent or purchase backcountry and touring equipment.
