Ski out the door when you stay at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, on the slopes of Mount Werner. The Sheraton Steamboat, located at the base of the mountain, is helping the resort celebrate its 50-year anniversary with the Gear Up For Steamboat package.

For $299 per room, per night, you’ll get a hydration water backpack, one pair of SmartWool socks per adult, one SmartWool neck gaiter per child, and two lip balms. SmartWool’s headquarters are based in Steamboat. The popular business is very supportive of the community and makes fantastic socks, and other clothing.

“We wanted to offer this new deal to help celebrate Steamboat’s 50th anniversary and all the great snow that has been falling over the past week. The conditions are amazing right now and the whole town is excited for this special anniversary season.” That’s according to Julie Dunn, with Dunn Communications who is a spokesperson for the Sheraton Steamboat.

The Gear Up package at the Sheraton is valid for stays Jan. 21 through March 3, with a three-night minimum required. The Rate Plan is: LAPKG2.

Steamboat may have gotten off to a slow start this season, but December has been phenomenal for the resort. Nearly four feet of snow fell in about a week, building up the base, opening more runs, and selling a lot of snow shovels at the local hardware store.

“To say Steamboat has experienced a change in the weather pattern would be an understatement,” said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.

More terrain is opening every day to get the mountain fully prepared for the busy holiday season. The resort wants to remind skiers and riders not to go out of bounds, until terrain is officially made available. State law prohibits an individual from entering a closed area, whether marked by rope or signage. Violations carry a fine of up to $1,000 and suspension of pass privileges.

“Everyone needs to ski and ride with care, within their ability levels, and remember: unmarked obstacles, on-snow vehicles and unexpected conditions may be encountered at any time,” stated John Kohnke, patrol director for Steamboat. “I can’t stress this point enough. Do not violate closures on the ski area. It’s going to be a long anniversary season, so make sure you make smart choices and are here to enjoy all of it.”
