The 2012-2013 Utah ski and snowboard season is about to seriously get under way this week, as a handful of resorts across the state begin to crank off the summer dust from their chairlifts. Brutus, the official name of the first big storm to hit the state, shook up to 52” of snow at some resorts over Veteran’s Day weekend – a prime example of Utah’s notorious Lake Effect snow – and just in time for the first resorts to open up.
Brighton will kick off the week-long celebration of openings this Tuesday, with Solitude, Alta, Brian Head, Park City and Snowbird following suit until Saturday. The recent storm blanketed the trails in light, fluffy powder, which will provide the resorts with a solid base of coverage on opening day. The remainder of Utah resorts will open throughout November and December.
Opening dates for Utah resorts are:
Brighton, Nov. 13
Solitude, Nov. 14
Alta, Nov. 16
Brian Head, Nov. 16
Park City, Nov. 17
Snowbird, Nov. 15
Powder Mountain, Nov. 21
Canyons, Nov. 23
Snowbasin, Nov. 23
Wolf Mountain, Nov. 23
Sundance, Dec. 7
Deer Valley, Dec. 8
Eagle Point, Dec. 21
Beaver, TBA
